So lovely and graceful! I'm feeling very inspired to try a workshop when things get back to normal after this hurricane...

Thank you :D
How bad was the hurricane at your place?
I hope it wasn't that bad! The news showed
terrible pictures from some parts of the America :/

Thanks so much for asking...the hurricane was truly devastating in some areas of NJ. In my area we have many power outages and many trees and power lines down in the road. Also a gasoline shortage with so many stations not having the power to pump gas, others running out of gas they have and so many people panic buying.

Thank God I had the forethought to fill my tank the day before the storm so I haven't had to deal with the crazy gas lines. The government has declared gas rationing (odd number license plates can only by on odd number days and even plates on even days.) That has dramatically improved the situation. Also each day more is cleaned up and power is restored to more traffic lights, businesses and homes.

I've been without electricity/heat/phone/internet at my house since the storm - that's nine days now. My whole neighborhood is out and we don't know when it's coming back. I drive back to my house every day to get the mail and just make sure everything is alright. I can't believe how cold it is in there. Another big storm coming in tonight.

My family and I are safe and warm. We are staying at my parents' house about 10 minutes from me. They thankfully never lost power. My boyfriend was staying here too until his power returned a few days ago.

In my immediate area, we are inconvenienced and frustrated, and it all feels very weird and post apocalyptic, but not too many homes were damaged or lost and I haven't heard of any deaths. In other parts of NJ and NY entire communities are gone and so many people died in some of these areas. It is just too sad to wrap my head around. The pictures I took in my area are nothing compared to that. I hope this very abnormally strong storm (coupled with the two abnormal storms we had last year) will help the world wake up to global warming and climate change so we can begin to turn things around, live more sustainably and save this beautiful planet.

Hopefully my electric power will be restored soon. My parents are lovely people and I'm so grateful for a place to stay with my kids and dog but after nine days I am more than ready to just go home.

That's really sad to hear :(
I think we are really lucky in this part of the world
to be spared of the really heavy natural disasters.
But I also think that many people don't realize that
if we continue to abuse the earth the way we do these disasters
will become normal one day :/

It's really disturbing not to know what the earth will look
like for our children :(

But anyways, it's great you obviously got people you can lean on
in those times! I wish you and your family all the best!

You really are lucky your country isn't prone to dangerous weather...The thing that is so frightening to me here is that New Jersey is not normally prone to natural disasters either, and neither is New York City. One would expect hurricanes in Florida or the gulf coast in the US, but not this part of the country - we are way too far north for this type of thing to be normal...a scary new trend. Thank you for your good wishes. I am grateful to have a place to go...
